Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns are used to restore a tooth that would otherwise be in danger of breaking. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile. A crown is typically crafted from strong porcelain material and affixed to the affected tooth with a durable dental resin. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size and colour of the tooth, giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.
A bridge is a fixed dental appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth. They are cemented in place using the surrounding teeth as support. Typically, a bridge consists of two crowns that go over the two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), to fill in the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A dental crown or bridge may be recommended to:
- Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
- Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
- Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
- Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
