Baby teeth do more than chew, they reserve space in the jaw for the adult teeth that follow. When a baby tooth is lost too early to decay, injury, or extraction, the neighbouring teeth can drift into the gap, leaving little or no room for the permanent tooth. A space maintainer prevents that drift and protects your child's long-term bite.
